Climate And Vegetation of Africa South of the Sahara
- Great slide show showing symptoms of our ill planet, esp. rain forests and 'sahels' in dire need of resurrection.
NICHES - this is a fantastic document written in the same terminology as was used in an "Engineering and the Environment" course I took back in univ. But what I am getting at here is the delicate balance between wind, water, earth... and sometimes fire (California Forest Fires of 2007). Funny thing is that even with the documented degradation to this essential system of ocean currents which feed the sahara and sahels with precipitate bearing easterlies which that big chunk of Africa has always relied on for sustenance - the chart to the right shows possible increase in future precip. As follows:
"So the answer to the question of greening or further desertification for the Sahara-Sahel is uncertain, at least in the IPCC’s Third Annual Report (TAR). The predictions five years later in the Fourth Annual Report may be more reliable - we’ll just have to wait and see. What happens in this vast, 30 million square mile region of Africa will have huge impacts elsewhere on Earth, as I’ll get to in the final Dust post."
Now the Quranic verse on top should not deter non muslims here. You are all welcome. I didnt intend for this blog to have religious inference, but when I came accross the verse it compelled me to put some media together. Atleast its a relief, with all of the ills of the earth there is still this promise from our Creator to revive and ressurect; a parable for the day of judgement, yet with factual environmental implication nonetheless.
